Available in YugNIRO data concerning distribution of Antarctic toothfish juveniles in the Indian Sector of the Antarctic are used in the paper. In the summer period of the southern hemisphere (January–March) juveniles of D. mawsoni with size from 4–9 to 30–75 cm were regularly registered in catches of bottom and pelagic midwater trawls in all the studied continental seas from 12 to 144°E.

According to the results of the long-term studies (1967–1991) in expeditions to the sub-Antarctic and Antarctic waters of the Indian Sector of the Southern Ocean, distribution areas of the Patagonian and Antarctic toothfish are clearly cut. It was concluded that the areas of these toothfish species were not overlapped in the area under review.

Data on incidental mortality of seabirds and marine mammals associated with longline fishing around the Falkland Islands between August 1996 and May 1997 are briefly summarised.
