Draft workflow for the calibration of Generalized Additive Models to extrapolate warp strikes observations in the krill fishery.

Following a request by WG-SAM, this study explores the use of Generalized Additive Models to extrapolate warp strikes observations to total krill fishing effort. Because these models require setting several parameter values, a draft stepwise workflow was designed to determine optimum values in an objective, transparent and reproducible manner. The workflow further includes steps to inform data preparation (e.g., gridding records in space) which, depending on the amount of input data, may be necessary to ensure model convergence.
