Abstract
The Russian Federation once again wishes to highlight the recurring issue in the management of toothfish fisheries in Statistical Subareas 88.1 and 88.2, where there are delays in gear retrieval at the time of fishery closure and where frequent overfishing of toothfish occurs (CCAMLR-43/34; CCAMLR-42/20). During the 2020/2022 seasons, levels of toothfish overfishing were high: up to 20% and 26% in Subarea 882 SSRU H and 11% in Subarea 88.1 (North 70) (CCAMLR-43/34). The delay in timely retrieval of gear in the longline toothfish fishery usually involves the same vessels.
