Abstract

The aim of this one-pager is to inform CCAMLR about the current status of the Weddell Sea Observatory of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Change (WOBEC) project. In its first year, WOBEC has delivered scientific outputs that support the development of a systematic ecosystem monitoring framework for the eastern Weddell Sea / Kong Haakon VII Sea, thereby contributing to the research and monitoring plans of the proposed Weddell Sea MPAs (Phases 1 and 2). Here, we summarise these outcomes and provide an outlook on upcoming activities. A more detailed overview was presented at EMM-2025.
