Résumé
Following a recommendation by WG-FSA-IMAF-2024, this analysis presents an analysis of total by-catch in the krill fishery. Unlike previous analyses, rather than focusing on fish by-catch, all reported taxa were considered. Further, the upscaling of observer records (from 25 kg subsamples of the catch) to total catch was conducted without the use of crew-reported by-catch. Upscaled by-catch was estimated at different resolutions in space, time and taxonomy. Results confirm the localized and sporadic nature of large by-catch events, including for the by-catch of salps. Further, large by-catch events of fish do not coincide with those of salps, possibly indicating that their ecological niches do not overlap.
