Vessel monitoring system (VMS) unit details survey results

The use of automated satellite-based vessel monitoring systems (VMS) is mandatory for vessels operating in the Convention Area as per Conservation Measure 10-04. This paper summarises results from a voluntary survey which was distributed as part of a recommendation by SCIC at CCAMLR-40 (CCAMLR-40/17, Annex B). It provides an overview of the predominant VMS units used by Members operating in the Convention Area. The survey is intended to assist the Secretariat and Members in identifying VMS-unit and provider-specific issues in data reporting.
