CEMP Special Fund activities 2024

One new proposal for the CCAMLR Ecosystem Monitoring Program (CEMP) Special Fund was submitted, proposing the use of electronic tagging of gentoo penguins to document their foraging behaviours and to determine if differences in foraging environment was associated with different chick survival rates. The management panel recommended funding the proposal while encouraging more collaboration with other research programs in the area conducting similar types of work and analyses. Four ongoing projects received funding from the CEMP Special Fund in 2023 and progress reports included. One ongoing project to fund maintenance of the CEMP Camera network is expected to continue in 2024/25. One project is completed and awaiting the final report. One project has requested a 1-year no-cost extension to collect data for another field season. One project has just started and in the process of procuring telemetry equipment.
