    Abstract

The aim of this paper is to summarise the items addressed during the sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 26 February to 1 March 2024. The session focused on how multilateralism can help tackle the multiple environmental crises such as climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.

Among the topics of the global environmental agenda discussed are: cooperation with Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEA) and their Secretariats, enhanced contribution of the regional forum of ministers of the environment; mineral and metal management; fight against sand and dust storms, against desertification and against air pollution at the regional level; rational management of chemicals and waste; water policies; highly dangerous pesticides; assistance and recovery in areas affected by armed conflicts; strengthening ocean-related activities. Solar radiation modification (SRM) technology was also discussed but no resolution was adopted on the matter.
