In 2025, the Coalition of Legal Toothfish Operators (COLTO) joined the Fishing vessels Ships of Opportunity Program (FishSOOP). One Korean and two Australian toothfish vessels were equipped with 2000m depth rated Moana Temperature-Depth Recorders, joining three New Zealand toothfish vessels which were already equipped with 1000m depth rated units. Two French toothfish vessels are preparing to join the program later in 2025.
Over 400 casts have been collected to date from the South-West Atlantic, Heard Island, and the Ross Sea. Sensors and deck boxes are automated and have operated reliably, with real-time quality-controlled data returned to vessels and an annual public release of data via AODN and SOOS commencing in January 2026.
This paper summarises deployments, operational performance, and future plans, and seeks Scientific Committee feedback on priority regions and oceanographic variables.
