Abstract

The aim of this paper is to inform CCAMLR about the current status of the Weddell Sea Observatory of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Change (WOBEC) project. During its first year, WOBEC delivered scientific output that support developing a systematic ecosystem monitoring framework for the eastern Weddell Sea / Kong Haakon VII Sea, contributing to the Weddell Sea MPAs (Phases 1 and 2) Research and Monitoring Plans. We summarise these outcomes, highlight their relevance as important steps towards a monitoring framework, and provide an outlook on upcoming activities.
