Progress on the CCAMLR gear library

In 2022, the Scientific Committee tasked the Secretariat with collating and making available fishing net diagrams and net configuration measurements submitted during the fishery notification process on the CCAMLR gear library webpage. Members were also requested to submit papers with additional net diagrams, configurations, and descriptions of operations to subsequent meetings of WG-EMM for inclusion in the gear library (SC-CAMLR-41, paragraph 3.18). This paper provides options to address these recommendations which includes a compilation of gear configurations submitted throughout the notification process in addition to a draft illustrated library of generic gear diagrams to both aid in understanding gear configurations and to promote common terminology. This paper also reviews issues that exist in the current database and structure of data provided via fishery notifications, to both identify and highlight areas which could improve the CCAMLR gear library.
