    Résumé

At CCAMLR-43, Chile presented document CCAMLR-43/BG/33 on the use of Electronic Monitoring Systems (EMS) to address discards, bycatch, and compliance. Since 2020, EMS has been applied on all industrial fishing vessels in Chilean waters and high seas, complementing human observation programs. Results indicate reductions in discards and bycatch, improved compliance, and more sustainable practices. Building on this experience, the present document introduces a survey designed to assess the level of technical knowledge, skills, and experience on EMS among CCAMLR Members; identify perceptions and concerns; determine Members’ specific needs; foster active participation and collaboration; design strategies suited to Members’ realities; and better understand positions to prevent conflicts or misunderstandings. The overall objective is to collect perspectives on awareness, advantages, challenges, and opportunities related to the potential implementation of EMS in CCAMLR fisheries.
